Haven: "L'intera esperienza è stata fantastica! Tutte le persone coinvolte erano fantastiche e gentili, abbiamo passato dei bei momenti in tour. Devo dire che Madison Square Gardens è stato probabilmente il momento migliore, la bellezza del luogo parla da sola! Ma ogni sera dopo aver girato potevano rilassarci in camerino o sui pullman insieme agli altri e questo è grandioso. Le persone coinvolte nel tour sono state eccezionali!"
Matt: "Per me è stata la seconda serata a Las Vegas.

Ci aspettiamo di girare ancora molto, quindi state collegati! Se misuraste le nostre riprese in lunghezza, potre...

When did you know that blink was getting back together?
When we all talked about it in the courtyard of our studio.

What direction will you take with the new album, musically? Will it be similar to older blink material, the untitled album, or something completely new?
I think it'll be the next step beyond the Untitled album. It'll sound like blink-182 still, and retain all the stuff that blink-182 is, but we were really excited about the last record and want to take the next step from there.

How much songwriting have you done since you got back together?
Quite a bit, actually. The first few months after we got back together were pretty much dedicated to writing, and throwing ideas back and forth. Some of them worked, some of them didn't, and we're really excited and positive about the new songs, and can't wait to get back to the studio and hash those out.

Do you have any timeframe for releasing Up All Night?
Nope, just as soon as we can get it done.

Who wrote Up All Night?
This is one that Tom wrote, and like all blink-182 songs, everyone's ideas go through everyone else's hands, and people change things and add stuff. The original idea came from Tom.

As far as vocals go, is it going to be both you and Tom? Just Tom?
Both of us are singing in it.

How do you feel about Tom still being a part of Angels & Airwaves?
Well, everyone does stuff outside of blink, you know, Travis works with a bunch of different artists, and produces things, and I work with a bunch of different bands, doing a lot of remixing and producing as well. I think the great thing about blink right now is that everyone is going to it, all three of us, because it's something that we love and don't get anywhere else. It's a very positive thing.

Before blink got back together, you mentioned doing a solo album. Do you still have plans of that?
I don't think so right now, but who knows what the future holds. I'm really happy with blink getting back together, and getting a lot of producing work and remixing work right now, and that's a lot of fun for me. I don't even think I'd have time to think about a solo record at this point, but, I'll never say no.

How have you grown as people and as artists through the hiatus?
I think we've done a lot of growing as people, just having a 4-year break from blink-182, and some time to step away from it and appreciate how lucky we are for what we've built. And, obviously with the different projects that everyone's been involved with and working on, we have a whole new skill set to bring to bink-182.

The so-called "blinkumentary" we've been hearing about lately. Is it going to be a continuation of the Urethra Chronicles, or something...

Frontman, guitarist, producer, songwriter, businessman—these are some of the many hats that musician Tom DeLonge has worn throughout his past dozen-plus years in the music scene, whether as the on-stage co-lead to bassist Mark Hoppus in platinum pop-punk powerhouse Blink-182 or as the sole frontman of the more experimental, alternative rock act Angels and Airwaves. Or perhaps it’s as the head of Macbeth Shoes or the visionary behind the social networking website Modlife. No matter which angle he’s viewed from, DeLonge’s years in both the underground and mainstream circuits have found him delivering interesting and important perspectives on the ever-changing entertainment industry, specifically in terms of tastes, technologies and traditions

Hailing from Southern California’s San Diego region, DeLonge received his first major break in the commercial music scene in the early ‘90s with the formation of Blink-182 and their eventual signing to a major label. Driven by his hook-laden guitar riffs and edgy voice—counterbalanced by Hoppus’ slinky bass lines and smooth vocal style—Blink-182’s material featured lyrics that alternated between comedy and contemplation, and boasted robust rhythms performed by drummer Travis Barker that propelled pits at every venue stop. The trio would eventually sell millions of albums, particularly with its most famous releases, 1999’s Enema of the State and 2001’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.

However, after the band’s 2003 self-titled album release, Blink-182 went on hiatus and DeLonge embarked on his most intense musical journey to date by creating a new band, Angels and Airwaves. With this new musical unit, DeLonge was able to reset his musical vision and direction, taking the recording reins by self-producing his albums and merging it with other technologies, including video, film and art. It was an education for an already-experienced DeLonge, in that the learning process yielded not only a pair of great albums (We Don’t Need to Whisper and I-Empire), but also a host of new techniques for the famed gu...

Q: What is the most exciting part of the tour for you?

A: I think the big talk of the day is how big the tour is. I tell people that we used to do 8,000 people a night. This one is going to be very many 20,000-30,000 [capacity venues], so I think that right there is freaking us out a little bit.

Q: You told the San Diego Union Tribune: “I have a lot of anxiety right now about this tour and how big it is. ” What’s keeping you up at night?

A: Well, I’d be fine if all those people weren’t staring at me…

Q: Other than that…

A: Other than that…but the cool thing about this band is if we ever mess up or do anything horrible, it makes the show better and people laugh at us and they feel good, so that’s good…Most bands, if something goes wrong, they cower and walk off stage and fire people. Not us.

Q: What goes through your head when you look over on stage and see Travis and Mark?

A: Sometimes, it feels a little like “The Twilight Zone.” Where am I and how did I get here, you know. But at the same time, to be honest, it feels like that’s where you’re supposed to be and that’s who you are. The only thing that’s odd, I think, is we all have so many other things going on in our lives too.

Blink, that’s all we ever did for the longest time, and then now, it’s like we’ve got companies. I’ve got Angels & Airwaves, which we’re releasing a motion picture and an album for free right after the first of the year. So I’ve got that going on and those guys are producing bands all the time, so we have all these respective projects that are very much active parts of our lives.

So I think when you’re sitting there looking at these guys, you’re so used to being younger and your whole world being around it, but now we’ve got this much bigger world, but at the same time, the band’s bigger than it’s ever been, so it’s crazy.

Q: We hear about these bands that the only time they see each other on tour is during the 90 minutes they’re on stage together. Is that how it is with you guys?

A: No, I don’t think so. We’ll see how it goes. We’re all going to bring our families out. We’ll all have different buses, for sure. I mean, I’ve got kids and they’ve got kids, but even before we had kids, we had separate buses.

I don’t know what the rhythm is going to be, but I do know that when we get to practice and start playing, it’s funny, you know. And the couple of shows we played already, we’re already back in to saying the crazy dumb shit we always say. It’s one of those things that’s going to come very quickly where people are going to go, “God, I forgot how much they talk!” So regardless of what we do during the days and whether we hang out, don’t worry, the shows are going to have plenty of chemistry, I think.

Q: You really picked great support ac...

Let’s take a moment and reflect. Obviously, a ton has happened since Blink-182 called it quits nearly four years ago — numerous side projects, a near-death experience and the rekindling of friendship. But I’ll start out slow — how is touring with the newly reformed Blink-182?
So far, it’s been super fun. This tour right now is probably the most fun I’ve had in the last ten years.

I was excited when you guys first announced it back in February at the Grammy Awards. Is there a certain way this all came about, or was it a collective agreement between all of you?
It was a collective agreement between the three of us. We started hanging out just as friends after Travis’ plane crash last year, and even before that, we were at a place where we were ready to hang out as friends. There was no speculation about the band at that point. But we started talking, hanging out, letting the past be the past. There felt like there was this gigantic elephant in the room when we were hanging out. We were in the studio, and Tom asked, “What do you guys think about Blink?” I said that we should really get back together and do our thing. Do what we do best, you know. And everyone seemed to be in the same mind-frame. It was really easy and natural to get back together, and it was really positive.

I would imagine with yourself and [Barker] doing +44 and guitarist Tom DeLonge doing Angels & Airwaves that it would take a while to get back into the groove of performing live again.
Well, we actually jumped into the studio right away to start recording … started bouncing ideas back and forth, and we decided we wanted to go back out on tour. We were really tight as friends and a band. Getting back together after four years, everyone is being respectful and polite to one another and trying to keep things even. Back in the studio though, you have to be able to speak your mind and such. So, we decided that going on tour would bring us together and make us tighter before we would go back into the studio and finish an album.

The cool thing about the band is talking to all the listeners on the air here in Detroit. I grew up with Blink, so it’s a hit with the generations like myself, but also with the younger generations. The band seems to cover the whole spectrum.
Yeah, it’s really amazing to us that we can go back on tour after four years of not being around and the response is incredible. It’s a huge cross section of people — people that were there since day one, people that hooked on at the end of the career and people that are there for the first time ever. It’s really humbling and amazing.

While the side projects are well-publicized, it is not so well-known of your production work, working with bands like All Time Low, Motion City Soundtrack, even a few Panic! At The Disco cuts … not to menti...

Four years had passed since Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker shared a stage together, but at this year’s Grammy Awards, the members of blink-182 stood together and announced they’d be playing music together again. The trio that had acrimoniously disbanded following the abrupt resignation of DeLonge began communicating again in the wake of a plane accident involving Barker. A breakup became a reunion.

Of course, all three had moved on to different projects in the interim, most notably Angels & Airwaves, headed by DeLonge and +44, featuring Hoppus and Barker. But Hoppus has done production work for a myriad of bands, Barker has been working on hip-hop projects with DJ AM, and DeLonge has been something of an investor-creative director in Macbeth, a shoe company, and Modlife, a web venture for bands.

Now, with all their previous commitments on the side, the band few thought would tour again have embarked on a jaunt throughout the U.S. with Weezer and Taking Back Sunday, in what has quickly become one of the best-selling tours in the worst economy in decades. DeLonge explains.

How has the tour been? What’s the energy like?

Oh the tour’s insane. It’s somehow officially the biggest tour of the summer. Even tonight [Pittsburgh], it’s 20,000 some people, sold out. Last night, 23,000 people as well. It’s fucking crazy. No one understands why dick jokes got so popular. They’re sending down NASA scientists to really try and figure out why it’s so big. But the tour is amazing and the energy is awesome. We’re playing better than we ever have and we’re having a lot of fun. Mark drinks now too so now we’re both up there wasted. We don’t even remember the shit that we’re saying.

Is it a validating feeling? I know a lot of tours aren’t doing very well. Is it like, ‘Shit, I should have done this two years ago?’

I know, you would think. To give you an idea, the promoters bought the shows thinking we’d do 8,000 people a night. The average shows are almost 20,000 a night. No one thought, not the band, not the promoters, not the management, so it’s not like we got together going, ‘Fuck, we should have done this earlier.’ We got back together because Travis had that accident and we thought it would be good to play music again together. But one step at a time and we’re having a lot of fun. It’s great. I’m humbled by it, honestly, because we still are just a punk band at heart. We’re talking the band’s been together almost 20 years now I guess, well, we broke up, but we’ve been around for almost 20 years. It’s just nutty to see this right now. We’re very, very happy it’s working out so well. It’s obviously making the reunion very electric.

You mentioned the accident. Was there a moment of realization between the three of you, that leaving Blink on indefinite hiatus ...

We’ve heard about your solo project a little while before the whole blink-182 reunion/continuation started. What can you tell us about it? Any chances of it happening?

Before blink-182 got back together, I had been working for a few months on a project of my own. I had about 12-15 ideas in various stages, and when blink-182 started up again, I brought all of those ideas to the table. I don’t know if I will continue down the road of doing an album on my own or not. Right now I’m concentrating on the tour, the new record, producing, doing remixes, and everything else. I have been talking with Chris Holmes about the idea of recording an entirely electronic album on tour, just to pass the time, but we will see if that comes to pass.

Do you have any current political, social or environmental concern? What do you do about them? What about the participation of you and other famous people in debates like it just happened with Prop 8? How important is it?

I rarely voice any of my personal political beliefs. To me, the prop 8 issue was not political, it was more about basic civil rights in the United States. I am also very concerned and involved in trying to help our environment.

How do you handle to manage your time among rehearsals, productions, blink-182 and family?

I don’t need a lot of sleep to function, and I am very busy from the start of the day and into the night. I try and balance everything.

What’s the line to get stuck in our heads from the new single? What can you tell us about it?

The hook of the song is “it keeps me up all night.” I’m super stoked on the way this song is turning out in the recording, and also the way I think it’s going to translate in the live show. Lots of energy, very dynamic. Kind of the next step from where we left off on the last blink-182 album.

Next month Enema of the State is turning 10. Definitely it was the biggest step to blink-182’s success. Why do you think that is?

Hard work, catchy songs, the right timing, and a whole lot of luck.

Tell us about “The Octopus”. Where did it come from, what does it really mean and what are the projects related to it? Is any more mystery around it yet to come?

I am the octopus. That is all.

The Octopus in Brazil was a total success. Did you plan on making Brazil part of it, or it was just something you decided to do since the chance came up with Action182.com?

I had always wanted to octopus drives to be international. Brazil has always been a huge supporter, so I wanted to make sure that the drives made their way down there. Specifically with the action182 people who have been supporters for so long.

More than 1000 people went after the 2 flash drives in Brazil. How do you take this kind of thing?

Amazing. I can’t believe how incredib...

Mark Hoppus Says Blink-182 Will Tour Again … In Europe
‘All three of us have agreed to go over to Europe in the next year, so we’re going to start planning that out,’ he says.
Blink-182’s reunion tour has been a runaway success, and not just because they’ve proven that they haven’t lost a step.

No, it’s the reaction they’ve gotten from fans, who have flocked to the shows en masse, selling out arenas across North America and snapping up merchandise with reckless abandon. To be honest, Blink are a little blown away by it all. See, when they first announced they were hitting the road again, they had no idea how fans would react — or even if they still had fans.

“When we booked this tour, we had no expectation of anything. We didn’t know if people were going to come to the shows, if they weren’t, if anybody still cared about Blink, for that matter,” bassist Mark Hoppus laughed. “We knew some people were still excited about it. We were definitely excited about it, but, um, our booking agent was just, like, losing his mind for three months straight, booking this tour, and then tickets went on sale, and all these shows sold out in an hour, two hours, a day, and everyone’s jaw dropped.”

It’s not much of a stretch to say Blink are having the time of their lives on tour — Hoppus described it as “a really great summer-camp celebration, with all your friends and really good vibes” — which is why they’re in no hurry to end it. They’ve just added another show to the schedule (a massive October 4 gig at New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden with Fall Out Boy), and they’ve already got their next move planned out too.

For the first time in nearly six years, they’ll be touring Europe, Hoppus revealed to MTV News on Tuesday (August 11). Dates are still being hammered out, but Blink are most definitely heading back across the Atlantic in 2010.

“The rest of the year, with Blink-182?
