Multiple sources are reporting that Blink-182's manager Rick Devoe appeared on Modcam yesterday and announced that the band will be recording "Up All Night" in New York after their current tour and will be released soon.

We’ve heard about your solo project a little while before the whole blink-182 reunion/continuation started. What can you tell us about it? Any chances of it happening?

Before blink-182 got back together, I had been working for a few months on a project of my own. I had about 12-15 ideas in various stages, and when blink-182 started up again, I brought all of those ideas to the table. I don’t know if I will continue down the road of doing an album on my own or not. Right now I’m concentrating on the tour, the new record, producing, doing remixes, and everything else. I have been talking with Chris Holmes about the idea of recording an entirely electronic album on tour, just to pass the time, but we will see if that comes to pass.

Do you have any current political, social or environmental concern? What do you do about them? What about the participation of you and other famous people in debates like it just happened with Prop 8? How important is it?

I rarely voice any of my personal political beliefs. To me, the prop 8 issue was not political, it was more about basic civil rights in the United States. I am also very concerned and involved in trying to help our environment.

How do you handle to manage your time among rehearsals, productions, blink-182 and family?

I don’t need a lot of sleep to function, and I am very busy from the start of the day and into the night. I try and balance everything.


What’s the line to get stuck in our heads from the new single? What can you tell us about it?

The hook of the song is “it keeps me up all night.” I’m super stoked on the way this song is turning out in the recording, and also the way I think it’s going to translate in the live show. Lots of energy, very dynamic. Kind of the next step from where we left off on the last blink-182 album.

Next month Enema of the State is turning 10. Definitely it was the biggest step to blink-182’s success. Why do you think that is?

Hard work, catchy songs, the right timing, and a whole lot of luck.

Tell us about “The Octopus”. Where did it come from, what does it really mean and what are the projects related to it? Is any more mystery around it yet to come?

I am the octopus. That is all.

The Octopus in Brazil was a total success. Did you plan on making Brazil part of it, or it was just something you decided to do since the chance came up with Action182.com?

I had always wanted to octopus drives to be international. Brazil has always been a huge supporter, so I wanted to make sure that the drives made their way down there. Specifically with the action182 people who have been supporters for so long.

More than 1000 people went after the 2 flash drives in Brazil. How do you take this kind of thing?

We might possibly [play it], but probably not, though,” bassist Mark Hoppus said. “We haven’t finished recording it yet, and we really don’t want the first time that people hear our new song to be a YouTube version of us playing it live. We want it to be the actual song, and we haven’t gotten the chance to finish it yet, so we’ll probably leave it out of the set until we actually release it.”

While “Up All Night” — which was originally titled “The Night the Moon Was Gone” (guitarist Tom DeLonge’s daughter thought that name up, BTW) — might not be finished yet, Blink are still endlessly proud of it.

“It’s an awesome song. We [just] haven’t done a recording of it yet,” DeLonge said. “But I don’t even know if we would have room for it, we have so many songs in this set.”

Blink-182 is finishing tracking the song “up all night” next week. Stoked. It will be released soon thereafter. Stay tuned.

Having abandoned the idea of completing a full new album as “too ambitious” before its upcoming tour, blink-182 will instead have one new song ready before it hits the road on July 23 in Las Vegas.

Guitarist Tom DeLonge tells Billboard.com that the track, titled “Up All Night,” has “got a little bit of (Pink) Floyd, a little bit of Rush, a little bit of blink in there. It’s crazy, but it somehow sounds exactly like where we left off (in 2005). It’s an amazing song.”

DeLonge says the tune is nearly finished, waiting just for Travis Barker to complete his drum tracks. Release plans haven’t been determined yet.

The guitarist explains that he, Barker and bassist Mark Hoppus fully intended to complete an album but the success of the tour derailed that idea. “I think nobody realized how massive this tour was going to be,” DeLonge says. “The tickets outsold what the promoters expected, three to one. So everyone’s trying to play catch-up right now and really nail this tour to be the best it can be and get everything ready, so there’s no studio time right now. Everyone’s so busy just trying to make this thing happen, I think.”

DeLonge says blink-182 fans can expect to hear plenty of hits in a two-hour set that will feature “massive production and arcs in the show that involve lots of bad words…The talks this morning were hot to incorporate the word ‘fuck’ in such a way that it somehow is parallel if not better than when it was lit on fire 10 years ago.”

That, of course, poses an interesting conundrum for DeLonge and his bandmates, who did not have children in the days of the flaming Fuck sign.

“I remember on the very first song of some of these larger tours we did, when the big Fuck sign lit on fire, parents would stand up and walk their kids out,” says DeLonge, who’s also working on a film and movie project called “Love” with his other band, Angels & Airwaves. “Now I feel like that’s what I’m gonna be doing, but to my own (six-year-old) daughter. I’m gonna have to leave the stage to go walk her out.

“A DJ explained it really good to me once; ‘I tell my kid it’s not bad if it’s art. If you’re not doing art, you can’t say words like that.’ I thought that was a really good way to handle it.”

Travis Barker has never been one to sit still. And when it came to his role in the reunited Blink-182, that wasn’t necessarily a good thing.

“We all got together and met up and, almost immediately, we got inspired. So it went from just playing around together to being like, ‘Let’s lay down demos! And tour!’ ” Barker told MTV News. “And, to be honest, it was crazy. I was still recovering from all my surgeries [from his September plane crash], and was way out of it when we first got back in there. I was in no shape to be in the studio, and we were kinda held back a bit. We decided to just get used to playing with each other again.”

So the trio scaled back their expectations — sure, there’d still be a record, but let’s just get this massive, laser-packed arena tour out of the way first. And once they got that sorted, it all started clicking again.

“We just started practicing for the tour, going through the old sh–, playing the greatest hits — only we’d start experimenting on them a bit, working on different versions,” Barker said. “So, it ended up that some of the old songs have new flavor to them, and then we also got around to making four demos, including one song that’s pretty much complete.”

That new song is called “Up All Night,” and Barker said Blink fans can expect to hear it out on the road this summer. He calls it both “a logical step” from where the band left off [their darker, more mature self-titled 2003 album] and a hint as to where they might be headed in the future.

“When we do go in [to make the new album], it’s gonna be like that. You can’t help but have everything on the table … all the stuff we’ve done — like +44 and Angels & Airwaves — since we last played and recorded, it will influence the new stuff,” he explained. “In the case of ‘Up All Night,’ it feels like it could’ve been on the last record, or right where the last one left off. It’s kind of heavy, if you mixed Box Car Racer and Blink. It all makes sense. The pieces are all together.”

So just when can Blink fans expect to hear that new album? Well, there are no firm dates just yet, though Barker did say the band plan on entering the studio after they wrap their tour. Oh, and they’ll also be working on it while they’re on the tour too, because, once again, Barker refuses to sit still.

“I’ll have the studio out on tour with me, and I think Mark will too. I wanna work on it while we’re on tour,” Barker said. “But that’s just me. I’m taking it day-by-day. Loving life. Working.”
