Travis collabora con Mary J Blige per la cover di stairway to heaven

R&B queen Mary J. Blige is making new friends inside Studio A at Hollywood's iconic Capitol Records building. Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker is hitting the drums, Michael Jackson's former touring guitarist Orianthi and legendary rocker Steve Vai, who Blige calls "my friend with all the hair," are shredding their guitars and her old pal, 'American Idol' judge Randy Jackson, is playing bass. To bring all the motley music genres in the room full circle, Blige is belting out the lyrics to Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven.'

"I think this song is not hard at all because it's based on pure emotion," Blige tell Spinner after a couple of takes. "You gotta get lost in the rock 'n' roll moment of it all, and once you get lost in the rock 'n' roll moment of it all you can do is scream to the top of your lungs or go as low as you need to go. It's not a head thing -- it's a spirit thing."

"In a room full of people, we were all asked what we thought the song was about and no one knew," Barker admits of one of the world's most renowned rock songs. "How Mary interprets the song -- she feels a stairway to heaven is how women might buy a bunch of things to make them feel like they are in heaven or in peace with all these materialistic things -- and then going back and looking at the words, I think she nailed it."

Blige is no stranger to "nailing" a classic rock cover song. Days earlier she appeared onstage at the 52 Annual Grammy Awards with maestro Andrea Bocelli on a duet of Simon and Garfunkel's mellower 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,' and her acclaimed 2005 comeback album 'The Breakthrough' boasted a cover of 'One.' "It really made people want me to do more of it," she says of her mash-up with Bono and co. "I think it's something special." Blige's makeover of 'Stairway to Heaven' will appear as one of the bonus tracks on the overseas release of her latest album, 'Stronger With Each Tear.'

As for a duet with Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant, whose recent Grammy-winning project 'Raising Sand' with bluegrass chanteuse Alison Krauss proves he has a talent for collaborating with female vocalists, Blige says, "I wouldn't mind, if he doesn't mind." Blige then adds, "Whole Lotta Love'...

Tom parla degli AVA e dei blink

Manca poco più di una settimana dall'uscita del terzo album degli ANGELS & AIRWAVES, Love, domenica, 14 febbraio (gratuitamente, naturalmente). L'album è anche accompagnato da un film che uscirà al cinema alla fine di quest'anno, più una versione deluxe che sarà acquistabile. Abbiamo fatto un controllo veloce con il frontman degli AVA Tom DeLonge per capire cosa significhino tutte le attenzioni per gli Angels & Airwaves per la nuova musica dei BLINK-182.

"I Blink stanno programmando come registreremo il prossimo disco. Abbiamo già iniziato prima del tour, l'unico problema che abbiamo adesso è che gli Angels stanno avendo un po' di energia in costruzione, quindi abbiamo una specie di uscita dell'album della nostra vita, e con questo film e tutto il resto, stiamo solo provando a programmare come potremmo fare ad essere in studio. Questo incontro doveva realmente esserci la scorsa settimana e poi questa settimana, ma questa settimana è arrivata troppo in fretta, quindi è difficile perché siamo tutti molto occupati.

Mark [Hoppus] sta facendo un remix per gli Angels & Airwaves che sarà nella versione in vendita di [Love]. Abbiamo un disco che venderemo che ha 30 minuti di musica in più, più un remix di Mark. Travis [Barker] ha anche lui un milione di cose da portare avanti, quindi ci stiamo concentrando su quello e questa settimana è stata buttata fuori dalla finestra. Ma mi sto preparando per il tour, quindi l'obiettivo è di incontrarci uan o due volte la settimana finchè non partirò e poi, quando sarò tornato dal tour, riapriremo la finestra per concentrarci solo su quello.

Abbiamo molte cose pronte [del nuovo album dei Blink] perché abbiamo lavorato contemporaneamente in diversi studi, quindi speriamo di finire molto in fretta. Sono in un buon momento, perché ho due grandi band. So come la gente sta con i Blink. So quanto sono grandi i Blink e so quanto siano seguiti e tutto il resto, ma gli Angels & Airwaves, nel mio cuore e alla gente a cui piacciono, questa è l'uscita della mia vita. Questo è il progetto più complicato, onnicomprensivo e profondo -- questo album e questo film -- che abbia mai fatto in tutta la mia vita. È molto, molto eccitante perché supera di molto quello che mi aspettavo. Pensavo che ne avrebbe sofferto perché mi sarei occupato dell'altra band con il tour o con qualcos'altro, ma sono molto, molto, molto eccitato del[l'uscita dell'album il] giorno di San Valentino. Un passo alla volta per me -- è difficile per me tornare indietro e andare avanti e in questo momento i miei pensieri sono tutti per gli Angels e per provare a capire come programmare la registrazione per il prossimo disco dei Blink, perché sta arrivando molto in fretta."

Il festival dei grandi ritorni: l’edizione 2010 dell’ I-Day Festival (Independent Days) torna alla sua sede storica, l’ Arena Parco Nord di Bologna, dove hanno avuto luogo otto edizioni dal 1999 al 2007.

Dopo la reunion hanno intrapreso un tour trionfale negli USA durato 4 mesi, 50 date per anfiteatri e arene del Nord America da Las Vegas ad Atlantic City; inoltre quest’estate saranno headliner nei maggiori festival europei.
Formatisi nel 1992, i Blink 182 hanno raggiunto il successo mondiale nel 1999 con l’album Enema of the State, che vendette 15 milioni di copie in tutto il mondo grazie ai singoli What's My Age Again?, All the Small Things e Adam's Song.

When MTV News caught up with Barker backstage at the Grammy Awards on Sunday — minutes after he rocked the stage with Lil Wayne, Eminem and Drake — we asked him for an update on Blink’s follow-up to their self-titled 2003 effort. And, from the sound of things, it’s gonna be a long year for Blink fans.

“We’re about to start working on it. I’m gonna try to wrap up my album and, uh, Tom has his band, he’s wrapping up that album, and then we’ll start working on a Blink record,” Barker said. “We go to Europe in August for all the festivals … we do, like, six weeks out there, and then our album will come out probably early next year.”

A spokesperson for Blink-182’s label Interscope did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment at press time.

So while the band seems to be following bassist Mark Hoppus’ plan of “just getting back in the studio and do what we do,” the fruits of that plan might not be heard for a while. But Barker maintains that a new Blink record is still very much the top priority for all three men, especially after they passed their first test — a high-profile reunion tour — with flying colors.

“This summer was the test, and we got out there, and it was the best time I’ve had playing with those two dudes in my life,” Barker said. “It felt even better than old times, so I can’t wait to do an album together again.”

Travis è stato fermato nel backstage dei grammy ed ha dichiarato:
"Stiamo per iniziare a lavorare all'album dei blink, devo terminare il mio album,Tom ha la sua band ed il suo album, tra poco lavoreremo anche al nuovo album dei blink. andremo in Europa ad agosto per tutti i festival, faremo circa 6 settimane li e poi il nuovo album uscirà all'inizio dell'anno nuovo."

anche se ci sono progetti paralleli in corso, Travis conferma che i blink sono il progetto fondamentale per tutti e tre i membri della band, soprattutto dopo aver passato brillantemente il test del reunion tour.

"L'estate è stata il test, ne siamo usciti, e sono stati i momenti migliori passati a suonare con quei due in tutta la vita. Mi sono sentito meglio che in passato, perciò non vedo l'ora di fare di nuovo un album insieme."

Mark Hoppus has heard all the talk about the Blink-182 album not coming out until 2011, and he’s determined not to let that happen.
It all started earlier this week, when he tweeted, “2011 is too far away. Gonna do all I can to have a Blink-182 album in 2010.” And when MTV News caught up with him Thursday night in Los Angeles, he laid out how he plans to finish the album, which has been in the works for more than a year now. As it turns out, the first step is just getting everyone together in the same room.

“We did a bunch of writing before we left on this tour, then we came home and decided we were going to take a couple of months and chill and do other stuff, then get back together in the beginning of the year,” Hoppus said. “And now that it’s almost February, we decided it’s time to get back in the studio and do what we do. So that’s the plan: just get back together and get to work.”

Seems simple enough. But when Blink reconvene in the studio, what will their new songs sound like? We’ve already heard Tom DeLonge describe the new Blink songs as “ambitious” and “the work of our life,” but by now, we’re sort of used to him saying stuff like that. So we asked Hoppus to fill us in.

“We definitely want to try a bunch of different stuff. I think it will still sound like Blink. I think it will still be catchy. I think it will still be poppy, but we want to be weird on this record,” he said. “There’s your pull quote: Mark Hoppus says ‘We want to be weird on this record.’ ”

But from where will all this weirdness spring? Well, apparently from pretty much everywhere.

“Everybody listens to such different stuff. Tom is really into, like, ’80s stadium rock; huge, monumental ’80s rock bands. Travis is all over the place, musically, and he always comes up with beats and drum parts that are so way out that I would never think of them,” Hoppus said. “And I’ve just been listening to a lot of weird indie rock. So somewhere between amazing hip-hop beats, stadium rock and indie rock, you’ll find Blink.”

And while he’s trying very hard to get the follow-up to Blink’s 2003 self-titled album in stores this year, Hoppus also hopes fans will be patient. They want this to be the album of their lives, after all. And just because each member of Blink is also working on other projects — DeLonge’s Angels & Airwaves will release their third album, Love, on February 14; Barker is working on a solo album; and the Hoppus-produced Motion City Soundtrack album, My Dinosaur Life, hit stores last week — that doesn’t mean Blink isn’t still their top priority.
